GUI Ren is a researcher, musician, and art practitioner. She graduated from the School of Music and Recording Arts of the Communication University of China (in the field of music application for media) as a postgraduate student. She is currently a PhD student of SoundLab in the School of Creative Media of the City University of Hong Kong. She is active as an art creator and practitioner in Hong Kong, planning and executing many different sound art talks and sound art performances. She is also active as a lead singer in a Hong Kong band (CheeseIce), performing through different venues. She is the initiator of the “Female Soundwalking” project, which involves women’s sound walks in various districts in Hong Kong. She has participated in art projects such as Sounding Tomorrow 2023 (co-organized with Hong Kong Creation Orchestra), DAT/ACT Exhibition 2022 (Hong Kong), and Sound Envelope 2021 (Hong Kong/London). Her research employs sound as the primary medium to explore the dynamic links between sound and identity, emotion, and space. She is active as a researcher and has been featured in the book “Sonic (under)Currents and Currencies” by East and Southeast Asian Popular Music Press 2022. She has been invited as a speaker at various international conferences, such as IAPMS 2020 (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia), IASPM XXI 2022 (Daegu, Korea), MuSA 2022 (London, UK), IsaScience 2023 (Vienna, Austria), etc.
